The history of tea dates back to 3000 BC. The Chinese and Hindus both claim the honour of being the first to drink the famous concoction. According to the legend, the Emperor-God Shen Nung was boiling water under a tree for a drink when the wind swept a few leaves off the tree and into the water. The emperor tasted it and found its flavour very delicate. It was a wild tea plant. Buddhist monks drink a lot of Tea as it helps them stay awake during their long meditations. The drink’s popularity then spread to Europe in the 17th Century and the traditional English teatime was launched by the Duchess of Bedford in the early 19th Century. There are five types of Tea, each obtained from the same species but with the leaves treated differently. For green tea, the leaves are quickly heat-dried (to kill the enzymes) then rolled and dried again; this offers an unfermented tea. Tea leaves contain large quantities of antioxidant substances which act against free radicals and protect our cells from everyday aggressions. Green tea is therefore traditionally used in consumer care as an active protective compound. The oily extract of green tea contains fatty acids (mainly oleic acid) and phytosterols with emollient and regenerating powers. Like other Heliami™ ingredients, this organic botanical is extracted in high-oleic acid sunflower oil, which is more effective at preserving the skin barrier integrity and preventing skin dehydration compared to conventional sunflower oil.

Silicon is the most abundant chemical element on earth after oxygen (approximately 28%), however it does not exist in its free form in nature. On the other hand, it is very abundant, almost always in a cristalline form, with a regular tridimensional structure: its basic pattern is a tetrahedron with an oxygen atom on each tip and a silicon atom in the middle. It forms compounds such as silicon dioxide (SiO2), contained in several minerals: - Quartz, by far the most abundant, which offers (in its various forms) a remarkable choice of semi-precious stones: pink quartz, citrine quartz (fake topaz), amethyst, etc.; the colour of the crystals is due to the presence of various elements (manganese, iron, nickel, etc.), - Sand, used as far back as ancient times to make glass, - Other minerals such as tridymite, which is rare and underexploited, or cristobalite, which is even rarer, and is contained in some magma rocks where it forms at very high temperatures (obsidian for example). Silicon also exists in the form of silicates, in feldspars or clays for example, in which the SiO2 group is linked to other atoms (aluminium, iron, magnesium, calcium, sodium, potas- sium, etc.). Silicon is also contained in the plant kingdom in the form of silica (horsetail, diatoms, etc.) and, in very small quantities, in the animal kingdom in the form of organic silicon (in connective tissues in particular). The name ‘silicon’ comes from the Latin word silex, which means ‘stone’.

Prickly Pear Cactuses have an important place in the history of Mexico, so much so that they appear on the national flag. Cultivation is thought to have started about 5,000 years ago. Before Christopher Columbus' arrival, prickly pears were, along with Maize, one of the main food resources for Amerindians. The plant was
introduced into Europe during the 16th Century by the Spanish conquistadors returning from the New World.
Pad extract is traditionally used as a poultice to soothe skin inflammation and insect bites or stings, especially tarantula bites. The Holy Roman Emperor Charles V is said to have been cured of a severe disease in a few weeks by applying nopal to his ulcers. Pad succus is also said to help stimulate hair growth.
Both flowers and fruits are often used as anti-diarrhoeic. In southern Europe and North Africa, the Cactus is used to grow impassable live fences. Traditionally, Arab people plant these cactuses around their homes for example. Thornless varieties also exist, which are used as fodder for cattle.
Preparami ER has been shown to boost the cell defense by stimulating the HSP (Heat Shock Proteins) and improve cell resistance to UV rays by evaluating keratinocytes viability. It has also demonstrated to reducevthe the SA-ß-galactosidase activity thus slowing down cellular ageing. Finally the activation of PPARα (Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptors) synthesis help to accelerate the repairing process of skin.

Milk Thistle is a biennial, herbaceous plant, native to southern Europe and Northern Africa. It is also widely cultivated now. It bears large green shiny leaves and purple tubulous flowers surrounded by thorny bracts. Milk Thistle was already known to the ancient Greeks and Romans, who used it to treat liver and bile disorders. Pliny recommended drinking Milk Thistle juice with a little honey to eliminate excess bile.
Its leaves, flowers and roots have historically been considered a vegetable in European diets, and its fruits (achenes), which resemble seeds, have been roasted for use as a coffee substitute. The plant is also part of the TCM and known as Shui Fei Ji. The plant is still used today used as an antidote for Amanita mushroom poisoning and to protect the liver and kidneys from toxic medications. Milk Thistle symbolises sacred things and protection.
Lipolami ER is a 100% naturally derived ester obtained from milk thistle oil extracted from seeds. It provides skincare products with luxurious skin-feel: formulations are softer, with non oily touch, not sticky and easy to spread. It also improves quality of emulsions thanks to its fluidity and low surface tension and more comfort of foaming products. Finally, it's the perfect dispersant for pigments and minerals for make-up formulas. As an ingredient with biological activity, Lipolami ER preserves the skin barrier function against dryness and delipidation.

Originally from the Near East, blueberries grow wild in all temperate regions, often in maize fields. The name Centaurea comes from the Greek Centaureion, a herb used by the Centaur Chiron, who, according to legend, discovered its properties by treating his arrow-wounded foot with the plant's milk. The name cyanus comes from the Greek cyanos, meaning dark blue. The medicinal properties of cornflower were first mentioned in the 12th century. A decoction of cornflower was prescribed for irritated eyes and eyelids, to treat conjunctivitis and, more generally, for inflammations of the skin and mucous membranes. In the past, cornflower was used to treat coughs and for its tonic and aperitive properties. It was also used to regulate menstrual disorders, stimulate liver activity and increase the body's resistance to infection. The flowers, but especially the leaves, were traditionally used to treat rheumatic and joint pain. Finally, the seeds were used as a mild laxative for children.
Made from flowers picked just after they have bloomed, Heliami Cornflower EC contains mainly fatty acids and terpenoids, with emollient, soothing and antibacterial properties. Like other Heliami™ ingredients, this organic botanical is extracted in high-oleic acid sunflower oil, which is more effective at preserving the skin barrier integrity and preventing skin dehydration compared to conventional sunflower oil.

Chinese consumers have difficulties finding beauty products reducing the skin discomfort caused by sensitive skin, an increasingly common phenomenon due to modern life conditions. To meet their expectations, they need to be scientifically tested, with more natural and more effective ingredients and dedicated to Asian skin. Sensitive skin alters the essential barrier role of the skin, whose homeostasis is fundamental to its function as a shield against external aggressions. When the balance of the skin is impacted, it can then no longer protect the organism and skin becomes irritated and uncomfortable. To address sensitive skin, Chinese consumers naturally trust traditional Chinese medicine, which is based on the belief that all organs are connected by a flow of vital energy circulating through our body. It keeps us physically, mentally, emotionally and even spiritually healthy. When this energy gets unbalanced, body is unhealthy and skin issues appear. Traditional Chinese medicine approach to skin care advocates for the stimulation of the body’s own restorative mechanisms with prescriptions. To restore the body’s balance, these herbal remedies use combinations of plants instead of relying on a single herb. PhytAura™ is an innovative active ingredient, based on the synergy of 4 plants taken from an ancestral prescription: skullcap root, liquorice root, peony root and jujube fruit. Its optimised manufacturing process combines heritage and modern science.

Thyme is a small perennial sub-shrub that grows spontaneously in dry, sunny places in the Mediterranean region. Thyme has been known since ancient times: Dioscorides and Hippocrates mentioned it in their writings, the Egyptians used it to embalm their dead, the Greeks and Romans used it as incense in their festive rituals, and the women of these various people used it as perfume and ointment. It was the Benedictine monks who spread thyme throughout Europe in the early Middle Ages. Charlemagne recommended its cultivation in the Capitulary of Villis. In the 14th century, to protect themselves from the plague, people wore masks containing aromatic plants: lavender, thyme, rosemary, and laurel. Thyme is also used in the composition of the Vinegar of the Four Thieves, a traditional antiseptic of the 17th century which was listed in the Codex in 1748. Thymus derived from the Greek “thumos” meaning "heart", "strength" and "courage", in reference to the toning and stimulating characteristics of the plant. As for the Greek root, it is said to derive from the Egyptian “tham”, meaning a plant used to embalm the dead. As for its species name, vulgaris, it means "common". A symbol of courage in the Middle Ages, thyme was embroidered on the scarves of knights.

Fossilised leaves of the oleaster tree (Olea sylvestris), a wild ancestor of the olive tree, have been discovered in Tuscany and date back several million years. According to recent research, this species was domesticated 5,000 to 7,000 years ago in several regions of the Mediterranean basin. Under the Roman Empire, the olive tree was planted all around the Mediterranean, which contributed to the Empire's monopoly on the oil trade and ensured its power in the world. Following their conquest of South America, the Spaniards planted olive trees as far away as present-day California. In ancient times, olive leaves were used to disinfect superficial wounds. They were known to have antiseptic properties and the ability to fight all kinds of infections. In the 19th century, the leaves were used to treat malaria. Herbalists recommended olive leaves to improve blood circulation. Olive oil was used not only for cooking, but also for lighting (oil lamps), for making soaps and for waterproofing textile fibres.
Olive trees represent a symbol of immortality due to their extraordinary longevity. They were commonly known as a symbol of peace, goodness, and purity since ancient times. Olive was first used as a cosmetic ingredient in ancient Egypt.

Sea Fennel grows near coasts, especially along the Mediterranean, the Atlantic, the Channel and the Black Sea. This small, umbelliferous, hardy plant grows both in the cavities in cliffs and on sand dunes. Its habitat is the edge of high tides, where the sea spray lands. Sea fennel is hence often the last plant to be spotted before reaching the sea.
Its creeping roots can reach 5m in length. They solidly anchor themselves in the crevices in the rocks.
Sea Fennel was a very popular medicinal plant right from the beginning of ancient times. It was later left aside, except by sailors who took tones with them to sea to prevent scurvy (thanks to its richness in Vitamin C). Sea fennel was also believed to improve sailors’ sight. The name Sea fennel comes from this similar, though slightly saltier, taste.
The oily extract of sea fennel contains lipids and some vitamins and carotenes with regenerating and antioxidant properties. Like other Heliami™ ingredients, this organic botanical is extracted in high-oleic acid sunflower oil, which is more effective at preserving the skin barrier integrity and preventing skin dehydration compared to conventional sunflower oil.

Native to Europe, Meadowsweet grows easily in damp places, preferring ditches and the banks of streams and rivers. Meadowsweet has a perennial reaching of 1.5 m, with toothed leaves and clusters of creamy, scented flowers. The flowering tops and leaves contain salicylates that reduce inflammation.
In Ancient times, Meadowsweet was known as a painkiller in articulation and rheumatism pains, but it was later forgotten. Traces of its use were only found again in the 18th Century. In 1835, in Berlin, Karl J. Löwig isolated and identified salicylic acid, an anti-inflammatory and analgesic precursor to aspirin (the word itself comes from an old name given to Meadowsweet: Spirea). Meadowsweet was largely used against fever, headaches, toothaches, articulation pains, tendinitis, sprains etc.
In the old days, Meadowsweet flowers were used to flavour some beers or wines such as hydromel. They provide an Almond taste and are still used by some creative chefs in jams and fruit compotes.
The flower was used to dye fabric yellow and the whole plant, as it is rich in tannins, was used to tan leather. Latins and Greeks used Meadowsweet as decoration and made crowns for Sylphs. Meadowsweet is the symbol of love.

Padina pavonica is a small brown alga that grows in warm temperate and waters and found in the Mediterranean, Black Sea, Red Sea, Atlantic Ocean, Pacific Ocean, and Indian Ocean. Padina pavonica is characterised morphologically by the presence of thallus (fronds or umbrellas) bleached by limestone. This alga participates in underwater chlorophilic photosynthesis and absorbs minerals from the water, then it deposits calcium carbonate crystals on its thallus at the highest rate of all algae. Therefore, it is called a "calcifying" alga or calcified alga. Padina pavonica is used in treatments for bone diseases such as osteoporosis and arthritis and in calcium-based food supplements. It is used in pharmacy and cosmetics, as it promotes the renewal of glycosaminoglycans, reinforces their protective actions and their actions on the maintenance of cellular vitality.
Efficacy tests on Padinami EC have demonstrated its ability to stimulate the synthesis of sulfated GAGs and Hyaluronic acids. It has proven also to boosts the synthesis of collagen and pro-collagen and improve cell communication between keratinocytes and fibroblasts. Finally, the dermis and epidermis structure is improved, skin is firmer and more supple.

Spirulina is a blue-green algae, one of the earliest forms of life on earth. Originating from the depths of the ocean, it dates back some 3.8 billion years. Its genus name Spirulina refers to its spiral shape.
There is documentary evidence of Mexican spirulina from the time of the Spanish conquest. The Aztecs harvested spirulina on the surface of Lake Texcoco using fine-mesh netting, then dried it in the sun before cooking it. It was mixed with sweetcorn to make a dish known as Tecuitlatl.
Spirulina is now consumed all over the world and cultivated in ponds. Well-known for its nutritive benefits, spirulina is mainly used in food supplements and vegan diet (due to its richness in proteins). For pharmaceutical uses, the algae thus appear to act as an immunostimulant and anti-inflammatory agent. With moisturising, nourishing, remineralising restructuring and antioxidant properties, spirulina is highly recommended for anti-ageing products Spirulina can also be used in creams for dry, damaged and stressed skin, hands eye contour and for after sun care. Sea foam, or sepiolite, is a white mineral that can sometimes be found floating in the Black Sea looking like foam. Sepiolite has been used as soap but also as a sculpting material by Turkish craftsmen. Linked to sea foam, we can trace it back to many legends: Greek with the beauty of Aphrodite or Venus, or Finnish with the souls of the sirens. In all of these stories, sea foam is always a symbol of sensuality punctuated with innocence, or of invigorating and natural charm.
With its very white colour and its marine origin, it has been dubbed the Venus of the seas and is seen as a symbol of pure and perfect beauty, like the image of a seductive and radiant woman. Sepiolite contains trrace elementslike magnesium and silicon. These trace elements are essential for our cells to work properly. Magnesium reduces the stress to which our skin cells are subjected and facilitates their optimal functioning. Silicon, on the other hand, contributes to the structure and elasticity of the skin and hair.

Ginkgo: It has recently been discovered that this legendary tree, symbol of longevity, has a specific genetic program that protects it from ageing. Ginkgo tree has golden reflective leaves with microcirculation activation properties. Rich in flavonoids, ginkgo leaves have antioxidant activities responsible for their protective properties of blood vessels by reducing the permeability of capillaries and strengthening their resistance.
Organic Horse Chestnut: Horse chestnut is a traditional medicinal plant whose seed, inedible, is known for its anti-edematous, venoprotective and vasoregulatory properties. Indeed, the triterpene composition of its seeds helps to reduce the capillary permeability responsible for edema. Horse chestnut seeds increase venous tone while strengthening the resistance and elasticity of the venous walls. As such, they are particularly suitable for reducing dark circles and under-eye puffiness.
Organic Red Vine: The term "red vine" designates several grape varieties, called "dyers", the foliage of which turns red in the fall. Rich in polyphenols, the red vine leaves have venoprotective, angioprotective and hemostatic properties. They improve venous circulation and reduce platelet aggregation.

SDR treated and film coated spinach breeding lines for the organic market. SDR (Short Day length Requirement) is a priming
treatment which will stimulate the spinach plant to bolt more easily and uniformly. Speed of bolting and flowering may be
improved to more than a week. Furthermore the SDR treated plants produce more side shoots on which flowers are carried
and express less stress symptoms before and after bolting. SDR treated spinach does not need to be sown in the autumn. It
may be sown in spring, limiting the risks during wintering of spinach plants. SDR treatment may be used on male and female
lines in order to obtains synchronized flowering. It has been shown that SDR treatment on female lines could improve yield
(under optimal seed production conditions). When SDR is used correctly, it will result in less inbred seed during hybrid seed
production. The organic SDR variant may be used in Dutch organic farming.

Oscar Wilde said that ‘beauty is in the eye of the beholder,’ because beauty remains subjective, a matter of taste, its appreciation changes according to the era and cultures.
Beauty would be directly linked to the uniformity of skin colour. Many studies show that the more complexion is uniform, the more the human face appears young and in good health and the more the person is beautiful and attractive.
Symbol of perfect beauty, Phytessence White Peony acts on the uniformity of skin colour by correcting excessive redness and attenuating ageing spots.
A herbaceous plant from Asia, the peony is traditionally used for its soothing properties and procures a sensation of absolute serenity. From the Greek Paeonia meaning “healing plant”, it has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for more than two thousand years to heal skin rashes, help scarring and calm nervous irritations (stress, anxiety…). Its root contains terpenoids, mainly paeoniflorin and polyphenols.

Sclerotium rolfsii is a fungal pathogen which has a broad range of host. This filamentous fungus produces abundant white cottony aerial mycelium. Its fermentation provides scleroglucans, stable polysaccharide of glucose monomers (MM 5-6 million Daltons).
Amigum™ is a unique gelling agent with thickening properties that is stable in extreme physical-chemical conditions but also that has limiting interactions with other molecules thanks to its non-ionic molecules. Amigum™ increases viscosity of formulation, stabilises emulsions as well as suspensions, and its structure prevents aggregation and thus encouraging solubility. It has also demonstrated biological properties, bringing hydration and softness feeling to the skin. Amigum™ is also very useful in formulas containing actives which are known to be difficult to stabilise, such as, AHAs formulated with an acid pH, anionic, cationic and amphoteric molecules which usually break the viscosity of the gels, essential oils which can diphase the formula, mineral salts, masks with clays, gels with algae extracts, and products made with sea water or mineral waters, ethanol in slimming water-alcoholic gels.

Bladderwrack is a brown seaweed, which forms a group of ribbon-like seaweeds, washed up by the tides and used as fertiliser. These algae constitute what is known as "goemon" or "kelp". It is easily recognisable thanks to its vesicles which allow it to float while remaining attached to the substrate. This seaweed is found in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, but also in the North and Baltic seas. For centuries, seaweed has been one of the main resources exploited on the foreshore (tidal zone), both for food and industrial purposes, to produce fertiliser and fuel. Bladderwrack is a seaweed with multiple benefits already used by the Romans to relieve joint pain. Bladderwrack has been included in the European pharmacopoeia for its high iodine content. It is a microcirculation stimulant, with moisturising properties, thanks to its polysaccharide content, and slimming properties thanks to its richness in iodine; it is used today to treat many ailments. Bladderwrack, with its beneficial properties, symbolises life.

Juglans regia is native to the region in Eurasia extending from the Near East through to the Himalayas and on to Western China. Walnuts must have been harvested from earliest times but the earliest records of actual growing of orchards of walnut trees go back to classical Greek and Roman times. Besides the nuts, trees are also a source of high-quality wood used for furniture and gunstocks.
Walnut has a long history of folk use in the treatment of cancer. In Chinese traditional medicine, the oil from walnut seeds is used as an application to several kinds of skin diseases, including eczema. A dye obtained from the pericarp of the fruit or from the bark or root may also be used to darken the hair. Walnut leaves and husks preparations have been used in phytotherapy for their astringent and antibacterial properties. The staining power of fresh plant preparations was used for colouring tissues and wool.

Incotec
A strong and versatile combination product. Through upgrading, a selection of seeds is made which are then pre-germinated using our priming treatment. Incotec's upgrading is able to select uniform and well-germinating seeds. Priming increases speed of emergence, resulting in both faster and more uniformly germinating seedlings. Priming also widens the temperature range in which the Celery seed will germinate (increasing from 16-20’C to 16-26’c after priming) and will break photo-dormancy, allowing seeds to germinate in both light and dark conditions.
The ability to split makes Improver Split Pill Special unique. The pellet does not disintegrate, but splits open and creates optimum conditions for quick development of the seedling. The coating material is designed to allow the seed free and quick access to moisture and oxygen. A greater part of the greenhouse seedling production in Europe is coated with Split Pill.

Cactus grows in Mexico and in the West Indies. It is a fleshy, creeping shrub with cylindrical branching stems.
Also called “Queen of the night”, Cereus grandiflorus prevents its delicate flowers from dessication by blooming during the night. Adapted to drastic climatic conditions, it can rebound from dramatic dehydration.
Its flowers are exhaling a delicious vanilla-like perfume with pinkish, red or white petals.
Young stems & flowers were traditionally used in tropical America in the treatment of cardiac problems and as a diuretic and sedative.
The flowers of Cactus grandiflorus contain betacyanins and flavonoids glycosides (Narcissin, cacticin, rutin, hyperoside, kaempferitrin, grandiflorine…) which confer anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, radical scavenging and bactericidal properties.
Cactus contains also carbohydrates with moisturising, conditioning and smoothing activities.
These actives’ synergies give to Phytofleur Cactus its ideal function as a perfect additive to help the skin rebound from dramatic dehydration, to control skin’s moisture level regardless of climatic conditions and to prolong the youthful appearance of the skin.

Lemon tree is a small tree originated in Asia (likely India and Pakistan) and is now commercially cultivated worldwide in tropical, semi-tropical, and warm temperate countries. It has a long history of cultivation in Southeast Asia and China, but it arrived in the Mediterranean area during Roman times and was brought to the New World in the 16th century.
Lemon is an acidic fruit due to its high content in citric acid and vitamin C. Popular in flavour, lemon has antioxidant properties, so lemon juice is often used in food to prevent oxidation and as a preservative.
Traditional medicine uses the fruit, peels, and oil. The oil obtained from the seeds is employed to treat fever and as an astringent.
Citrus preparations are said to have antiseptic, astringent, and refreshing characteristics and are very popular when applied as masks. With its sunny yellow colour, the lemon is the symbolic fruit of hot countries.

Dehydrated castor oil (DCO) is manufactured by the chemical dehydration of castor oil, to give a product with a relatively high degree of conjugation. It can be used in many surface coating applications, particularly when short drying times are required. The triglycerides in castor oil contain a large percentage (83-90%) of ricinoleic fatty acid. This fatty acid contains a hydroxyl group so when it is dehydrated a new carbon-carbon double bond is created. This effectively turns a non-drying oil into a drying oil as the new double bond is conjugated to the double bond already present. DCO has good water resistance and durability properties and also non yellowing properties which make it ideal for surface coating applications such as varnishes. Other applications of DCO include brake linings, alkyd resins, printing inks, mastics and sealants.

Native to Canada, wintergreen is an evergreen sub-shrub that grows in coniferous forests, undergrowth, and clearings in North America. Wintergreen was already known to the North American Indians, who used the leaves of this plant in traditional medicine to treat various ailments (headaches, backaches, fevers, etc.) Decoctions were used as gargles against sore throats or applied as compresses to relieve skin inflammation. In the 19th century, analysis of the active ingredients of Gaultheria revealed the presence of methyl salicylate. This compound in the essential oil, hydrolysed to salicylic acid, is a precursor of aspirin.
Wintergreen essential oil is also used in perfumery for its woody smell In North America, wintergreen is called "Wintergreen" and refers to the persistence of its leaves in winter. It is also called "Canada tea" or "mountain tea", as its leaves are often prepared like tea.

Rosemary originates from Southern Europe, where it has long been used as an herb and medicinal plant. In ancient times, the Greeks dedicated it to the goddess Aphrodite and the Romans burned it for its healing effect. Rosemary, highly treasured due to its antibacterial effect, has been used for centuries to treat all kinds of ailments: headaches, to fortify against stress, to wash the eyes and to prevent conjunctivitis. Rosemary flowers have also been used extensively. A distillate of rosemary flowers, called "Queen of Hungary Water", was widely used to treat rheumatism and gout. Today it is mainly grown in the Netherlands and the Balkan countries. Part of the harvest is used in industry, where rosemary is used as an aromatic ingredient in the production of soap. Its energising effect was put to the fore and rosemary became a good luck symbol.

Originated from South America, Chenopodium quinoa is called pseudocereal due to its composition close to cereals. Quinoa is an important food in Andean region and is cultivated since more than 5000 years. This extremophilic plant grows in arid, cold and windy regions with poor, often salty, soil. Indeed, it derives its extraordinary nutritive qualities from its hardiness.
In the province of Altiplano live the Kallawayas. These nomads practice empirical medicine using their in-depth knowledge of regional plants and white magic to heal local people. These healers use the quinoa to make llikta, a paste used to soothe inflammations and itches. Richer in essential amino-acids, vitamins (B group, E) and minerals (Ca, K, P, Mg…) than cereals, quinoa is ideal to moisturise and nourish the skin. The content in saponins brings anti-inflammatory properties and soothes sensitive skin.

Camu Camu is native to the tropical forests of South America and grows in swamps and wetlands, near rivers and Amazonian lakes in Peru, Brazil, Venezuela and even Colombia. It can survive several months with its trunk submerged in water. Camu Camu fruits are traditionally harvested from canoes because they are ripe during the rainy season when the ground is flooded. Camu Camu has been regarded by South American tribes as a symbol of strength and health since time immemorial. The fruits are eaten before a hunt because of their stimulating effects. Before they were recognised as an essential source of Vitamin C, Camu Camu berries were also used as fishing bait. The camu camu, a fruit that is still often misunderstood in the West, is a superfruit thanks to its high vitamin C content.

Mate is a tree native to South America, which grows up to 20m in height in the wild but is kept to between 4 and 8m when cultivated. Mate grows beside streams and in the mountainous forests of Argentina, Paraguay, Chile, Peru, and Brazil. Just after harvesting, the leaves are dried by turning them rapidly above a fire in perforated cylinders. They are sometimes roasted as well. Since the most ancient times, Mate leaves have been used widely in South America to make a tonic and stimulating drink (because of their caffeine content) which is also known to relieve rheumatisms and headaches. There, the plant is called yerba, 'divine herb' while the Mate refers to the cup in which the herbal Tea is traditionally prepared. Occasionally, the leaves were also applied to ulcers in poultices. Mate symbolizes friendship and hospitality.

Witch hazel is a woodland tree, indigenous to Canada and eastern parts of the US. Today it is commonly cultivated in Europe.
Witch hazel has been used for centuries by the Indians against bleeding and inflammations. It is used to treat rosacea, heavy legs and skin redness. Witch hazel contains large quantities of tannins. These have a drying, astringent effect, causing the tightening up of proteins in the skin and across the surface of abrasions. This creates a protective covering that increases resistance to inflammation and promotes healing of broken skin. Witch hazel is a very useful herb for inflamed and tender skin conditions, such as eczema. It is mainly used where the skin has not been significantly broken and helps to protect the affected area and prevent infection.

Ginkgo also known as the 'thousand-crore tree', is an unusual tree. It can live for more than 1,000 years and has existed for more than 200 million years. Ginkgo trees are primitive plants which appeared during the Jurassic and were common until the end of the Tertiary period. Nowadays, they are the only remaining representatives of the Ginkgoaceae family and this long-gone vegetation.
Ginkgo trees are extremely resilient to environmental stress, especially pollution.
Ginkgo trees have been used in Oriental medicine for 5,000 years. The Chinese Emperor Chen Nong was among the first to class plants according to their therapeutic properties. He ranked ginkgo trees among superior medicines, mainly because of their stimulating effects on blood circulation.
Ginkgo trees were the only trees to survive in Hiroshima after the atomic bomb and have become a symbol of longevity.

White tea is grown in the high mountains of South China in Fujian. A special name for white tea is Pai Mu Tan. Like green tea, white tea is an unfermented tea. However, the leaves are rapidly picked and dried resulting in a purer, more ""natural"" quality. White tea comes from a rare strain of the tea plant and is harvested only a few days of the year.
White tea is reported to have a greater concentration of phenolic components than green tea because polyphenols are oxidised or destroyed to a lesser extent during processing. Therefore it is reported that white tea may have the strongest anti-cancer potential of all teas. Tannins from tea leaves have anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory and radical scavenging characteristics.

Oryza sativa belongs to the Poaceae (""true grass"") family and it is native to tropical and subtropical southern Asia.
The violet rice was going to disappear due to the preference of Occidental countries for rice Thai which is also easier to cultivate. It has been reintroduced by fair trade cooperatives in Thailand and Laos.
In traditional Chinese medicine, food plants are an integral part of the pharmacopeia. In Thailand, this “essential cereal” is not only consumed, it is genuinely venerated during ceremonies.
Rice is a plant rich in amino-acids, vitamins (especially B type), sugars and mineral.
The Khao Gram variety (violet rice) contains also anthocyanins which give this purple colour to the bran and have antioxidant properties. Offering astringent and soothing properties, rice is used to heal many skin diseases.

The skin is in permanent contact with the outside environment. Keeping it moist strengthens the skin’s natural barrier against external aggressors.
For centuries stevia has been used by Guarani Indians in many medicinal remedies as well as for sweetening their matés and curative teas.
Rich in stevioside, a major glycoside with a sweetening capacity 300 times greater than that of sucrose, stevia has a long-lasting nourishing and moisturising effect on the skin. Its leaves also contain flavonoids that protect the plant from the harmful effects of solar radiation. When applied to the skin, these flavonoids have anti-radical properties that fight against collagen fibre alteration and thus slow down ageing and maintain tissue tone.
Phytessence Stevia GL significantly increased skin hydration and smoothness compared to the placebo (glycerin) and untreated skin.

Mulberry tree was known in antiquity throughout the Mediterranean basin. Probably originating in Persia, it arrived in Europe before the white mulberry. In Japan, Mulberry trees grow naturally but are also widely cultivated as a support for silkworms. The Black Mulberry tree originates in Western Asia and North America.
The Greeks used the berry to change the colour of wine. Dioscorides believed that the mulberries could decongest the stomach, that the juice was astringent and that it was effective as well against fluxes, creeping sores and tonsillitis. They used also the Mulberry to calm sore throats. Today, it is used to
prevent cardio-vascular diseases by strengthening the walls of the capillary vessels. In the Chinese and Japanese Pharmacopoeia, Mulberry extracts are used as skin radiance. They further have anti-inflammatory and moisturising properties.
